Simply Good Food TV, a new business based in Cumbria, has been shortlisted for the Guardian Startup of the Year award.

Described as ‘Netflix for foodies’, Simply Good Food TV is a food tv channel app started by local chef Peter Sidwell, who is best known for his work on tv, including as a judge on ITV’s Britain’s Best Bakery.

Peter has spent a year working on building the global platform, in hopes of changing the way that people watch their favourite cookery programmes.

Peter said: “We are delighted that Simply Good Food TV has been shortlisted for the Guardian Startup of the year.”

The competition offers business less than 18 months old from all over the UK the opportunity to enter.

Peter said: “To be shortlisted after just 11 months is a wonderful achievement. The app is going from strength to strength with over 50,000 downloads so far, and 22 chefs creating new content.

“The app is reflecting the change in consumer habits and with the aim of becoming the food lovers Netflix"

Each of the finalists is showcased on the Guardian website with the judges picking the top three in each category to attend the final this summer.

The Simply Good Food TV app is available for free to download on all Apple and Android devices.
