Broughton bridge, which links Great and Little Broughton to the main road, has been closed following an inspection, says the county council.

No details have been released but the bridge has sustained 'scouring' damage.

Meanwhile, one of Carlisle's busiest bridges remains closed today.

Council chiefs hope water levels recede enough for an underwater safety inspection of the bridge to be carried out today.
