Examples of safety and wellbeing in the nuclear industry have been honoured at an awards ceremony.
The first Safety and Wellbeing Awards, held by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority recognised work being done across the group.
Eleven winners, chosen from 70 nominations, picked up awards in front of around 250 people at the ceremony, held in Manchester.
Winners included the WVP Pipe Bridge in HLWP at Sellafield in the safety and technology innovation category; the Silo Maintenance Facility Project was named outstanding project, plus given the Chairman's Award and Dorothy Gradden and Josephine Stabler, both of Sellafield and Darren Simpson, of LLWR, won Role Model awards.
David Peattie, chief executive of the NDA, said: “Our role in cleaning up the UK’s nuclear legacy is of national importance. It’s our duty to carry out this highly complex mission safely.
“These awards have highlighted the inspiring work within the NDA group and the shared drive to put safety and wellbeing at the forefront of everything we do.”
Other winners were Magnox's focus on continuous improvement in the Achievement in Safety category, its mental health first aid and wellbeing won the Achievement in Wellbeing award and other role models were Denny Macdonald, of Dounreay and Angharad Rayner and Keith Jennings, both of Magnox.
Delegates heard from leading experts in the field of safety, including Professor Denise Bower OBE, executive director of the Major Projects Association.
