THREE new apprentices at Marl International are enjoying interacting with businesses from all over the world.
Olivia Mawson, 17, Kristian Perry, 18, and Harry Stainton, 29, all started their apprenticeships at Marl in September.
Already, all three are an integral part of the Ulverston-based business, known for developing world-first technology solutions.
Harry, a business and administration apprentice in sales and marketing, has already been travelling around the UK seeing first-hand how Marl’s technology is behind some of the country’s leading innovations.
Harry went to Cambridge with Marl for the day to visit a business where Marl LED technology was being included in train technology, for use across the UK rail network.
A former Lancaster University graduate, Harry also visited Goole, Yorkshire, to see a business where Marl’s LED technology is being used for horticultural lighting to help crop propagation.
“What I love most about the job is that you learn something new every day. There are so many industries where Marl is the hidden technology behind the innovations,” said Harry.
Olivia, who is also a business and administration apprentice in sales and marketing, deals with Marl’s customers from all over the world. Because of the different time zones in international trade Olivia arrives at the office every day to a host of new enquiries from around the world.
Olivia studied maths, biology and psychology at Ulverston Victoria High School for a year, before deciding that learning and earning in a job role while completing an 18-month apprenticeship was what she wanted.
“It’s great to have an opportunity like this with a big company on the doorstep. I am really enjoying it. The people are nice and really help you to settle in,” said Olivia.
Kristian, a business and administration apprentice, joined Marl through a Gen 11 apprenticeship. In his role in purchasing and accounts, Kristian, deals with a range of people to ensure orders, production and financial processes are kept on track. He said: “It’s the people who make the job so good. Everyone is really helpful and happy to share their knowledge which helps you understand the whole business."
Michelle McGuffog, Marl’s Sales & Marketing Coordinator, said: “Olivia, Harry and Kristian have all settled in extremely well and are making a really important contribution to our business.”
