A CUMBRIAN teenager has celebrated bagging an apprenticeship after being out of work for more than a year.
Lewis Edmondson, from Carlisle, has started an apprenticeship as a photocopier assistant with Gemini Communications with help from training provider PHX Training - a firm which delivers Government initiatives to get people into employment.
Lewis' apprenticeship will last for 18 months, with a view to becoming a photocopier engineer at the end of the course.
The 19-year-old, from Stanwix, had been struggling to find a job or apprenticeship on his own until the training company stepped in.
Work coaches from the PHX Training helped Lewis update his CV and submit the job application - together with interview advice.
Gemini Communications, based at the Petteril Side Business Park, Carlisle, supplies, installs and maintains IT and telecommunications systems.
Carol McDougal, general manager of Gemini Communications, said: “Lewis is very keen and eager to learn and I look forward to seeing him flourish in his new apprenticeship.”
Sara Weightman, business development officer at PHX Training said: “Lewis had a fantastic approach to finding a job and an apprenticeship is the perfect way for him to improve his skills, while also learning on the job and earning money.
"He showed great maturity and professionalism throughout the process and the new role will allow him to kickstart his career.”
The company delivers government-backed initiatives including course for adults, NEETs, (teenagers not in education, employment or training) employability contracts, apprenticeships and work-based learning programmes.
The company specialises in apprenticeship qualifications in business administration skills, offering learners skills for roles such as office executive and supervisor and administrator.
The apprenticeships include team leading, customer service, hospitality, management and warehousing across the North West.
The PHX team of qualified trainers offers a range of services to job seekers at training centres which include Carlisle and Workington.
