Chef Kevin Tickle’s new venture, Heft, in High Newton, is now open. It’s a joint venture with his wife Nicola – they put in an offer for the 17th Century coaching inn, then called The Crown, two weeks before the March lockdown. After taking over the business on July 21 they have spent the past year refurbishing the property.

The bar opened last month (July) and the 40-cover restaurant was scheduled to open this month. The business is just three miles down the road from where Kevin made his name during the eight years he worked at Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume. It was there he built on his childhood knowledge of Cumbrian plants and became Head Forager. He then went on to be head chef at Forest Side in Grasmere, which was awarded a Michelin star within its first year.
