PLANS to open a new gym in Barrow have been given the thumbs up.
Proposals submitted to Barrow Borough Council to change the use of an industrial unit to bring a new gym to Barrow have been approved.
Applicants TB Group has permission from Barrow Council to convert the unit, which is off Walney Road.
A statement making up the plans, described the proposal.
It said: "The premises to which the application relates is one unit within a larger complex which is in use for a mix of industrial and associated uses.
"Access to the site is taken from Walney Road and parking is provided in front of the building.
"The site is accessible via public transport, with bus services stopping at the Asda supermarket (300m) and on Holker Street (450m).
"The proposals involve the change of use to a gym.
"The gym will feature a mix of fixed equipment and open space for classes etc.
"The proposed change of use will not prejudice the vitality and viability of Barrow town centre, as there are no suitable sites available in the town centre or in an edge of centre location.
"The site is situated in a location which is accessible by public transport, therefore users of the gym will not be solely reliant on the private car."
Documents submitted as part of the planning application showed the applicant had 67 available sites in Barrow, with none meeting their requirements.
It would the latest gym in Barrow following Industry 13 in Roose Road, while The Gym Group has had plans approved to open in Cornerhouse Park.
The proposal from TB Group was approved by Barrow Borough Council on July 14. The plans do not state when the new gym will be open to customers.
