PLANS have been submitted to create Barrow's latest gymnasium with mental health and nutrition at its core. The Gym which proposes to open 24 hours a day, would be constructed by amalgamating two industrial units together.
The new owners who have not been named, want to combine Units 12 and 14 on Forge Close along the Phoenix industrial centre. Plans show 47 parking spaces with four disabled, along with spaces for five motorbikes and seven cycling spaces,
The vacant site has 560 square meters of space and proposes to employ three full-time staff and four part-time staff and is located a short drive from Asda superstore on the A590.
The design statement being submitted to Barrow Borough Council says; “The proposed development will be suitable for a variety of sports and clients. The facility will be manned by time served experts with exercise and nutritional advice on hand as well as taking a mind body and soul holistic approach.”
“Mental health also features in the application pack and says: “Trained mental health first aiders with basic counselling and critical incident qualifications will be onsite to discuss issues or traumatic events in confidential structured informal meetings.
Barrow already has listings for 14 fitness centres spread around the town with the closest being the ‘Ironwerx’ in the neighbouring James Freel Close.
The project's agent M and P consulting engineers, were approached for comment but so far none has been given.
