One of the North West’s most vital businesses is sponsoring the in-Cumbria Business Awards 2021.
United Utilities will be the headline sponsor for the awards, due to take place at The Halston, Carlisle, on Thursday, November 25.
The awards will be presented by Carlisle-born BBC Countryfile presenter Helen Skelton, with winners announced across 12 categories.
United Utilities’ Ian McCoy said: “We’re very proud to sponsor the in-Cumbria Business Awards and we hope that this year provides another opportunity to showcase the success and contributions of companies, small and large, across the county. The last year has been a year like no other, and the pandemic has thrown challenges at everyone in the business community. So let’s take the chance to celebrate those companies who have provided real inspiration.
“Here at United Utilities, throughout the last year or so we have continued to focus on our key objectives – to supply great water and more for the region. Our key workers have kept the taps and sewers flowing, while our Whitehaven call centre teams have continued to support our customers, some of them working from home.“Meanwhile, progress has not stopped on West Cumbria’s new £300m water supply system which will bring water from Thirlmere to the coast via a new pipeline and water treatment plant. It’s been a real challenge to keep the project going throughout the pandemic and we are still on track to complete it by March 2022.
“It’s not just big construction projects where we have an impact in the county. At Haweswater reservoir we’ve been working with the RSPB to restore the landscape to a more natural state. As well as helping to improve the natural water quality, it has helped habitat to recover for increasing numbers of insects, birds and wildlife. We’ve established a new plant nursery which will provide local employment and supply specialist upland trees, shrubs and Arctic alpines to help the landscape restoration work continue. Meanwhile eco-tourism is taking off with wildlife hides for visitors to enjoy red squirrels, badgers and rare birds.
“We’ve always been at the heart of life in Cumbria, and we know that something the county has in abundance is resilience. We are looking forward to seeing some inspirational entries to this year’s awards. Good luck everyone.”
