The owner of an Indian takeaway in Barrow said he is upset after his shop window was smashed in the early hours of Sunday Morning.

Fahsin Ahmed, who runs the Indian takeaway ‘Mithali’ on Cavendish street, Barrow alongside his brother Evan said he was angry and upset to see his shop window had been smashed by a youth around 5:00am on Sunday, August 22.

The Incident was believed to have occurred after a young man who was seen on CCTV wearing white pants/shorts had been ejected and banned from Theatre Bar for his behaviour that night and taken his frustration out by smashing the takeaway window.

Mr Ahmed, whose parents opened the Mithali restaurant three decades ago said: “I’m obviously pretty angry, but more upset than anything.

“If your going on a night out you don’t need to go smashing and kicking shop windows in.

“Don’t cause another business upset and distress.

“Times have been difficult enough for local independent businesses and it’s not what they need.

“We are going to have to spend a lot to repair the window which will come out of our own pocket.

“There isn’t much point making insurance claims as we will only receive a couple hundred back."

Fahsin said this is the first time this has happened to his shop despite the street it is situated on.

“This has never happened before.

“There is obviously fights on the street with it being the main strip where clubs are and especially when alcohol is involved but this is the first time it’s happened.

“The man even went further and kicked in the window of Dallas Chicken on the same street.

“Everyone is having it tough, what is the need to cause more financial suffering to businesses."

Fahsin said police are aware of the incident and are out looking for the man thanks to CCTV footage of him but it would be lovely if he could come forward himself

Mithali is operating business as usual and looking to replace the glass.
