NXT RECRUITMENT DIRECTOR
NXT Recruitment has appointed a new Director. Emma Lindsay started as a trainee Recruitment Consultant in 2015 and has now been appointed Recruitment Director.
Emma said: “It’s an honour to be recognised for my hard work and dedication by being promoted to Recruitment Director. I am looking forward to being part of the leadership team and the future of NXT, continuing to deliver excellent results on behalf of our clients and helping businesses grow.”

NEW APPOINTMENT
Claire Painter has been appointed as a Property Valuer at H&H Land and Estates in Penrith.Originally from North Yorkshire, Claire moved to Cumbria in 2020. She now lives just outside of Cumwhinton, and has thrown herself into Cumbrian life, often enjoying long walks in the fells with her family and dogs.
TRIO OF TALENT
Jennifer Cormack, Emma-lea Dalton and Claire Deekes have been appointed to the board of the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (CLEP), the organisation tasked with driving growth and investment in the region.
Jennifer Cormack currently works for Windermere Lake Cruises, the most popular tourist attraction in Cumbria. She’s joined by Emma-lea Dalton, based in Dalton-on-Furness, Emma-lea will support the region’s SMEs, as an entrepreneur and director of three successful small businesses: Brizzolaris Bar, MKO Properties and My Kind of Clean.
Claire Deekes has more than 25 years’ experience across the retail banking and building society sectors, she’s currently Head of Retail Distribution at the Cumberland Building Society.
LEGAL ROLE
Cumbria-based law firm Harrison Drury has appointed commercial solicitor Natalie Spedding to support its clients in Kendal and the surrounding area.
Natalie joins as an associate solicitor and will be based at the firm’s Kendal office at Bridge Mills.
Natalie lives on the family farm near Carlisle where she has her own flock of sheep including Dutch Spotted Texels and North of England Mules. She is also a parish councillor.
KEY PROMOTIONS
Kelly Quail has been promoted to corporate tax director and Ian Waddingham has been named corporate finance director at Kendal-based MHA Moore and Smalley.

LEGAL 500
Burnetts Solicitors has again been highly rated in The Legal 500 UK Solicitors 2023 rankings with Michael Walby retaining his status as a Leading Individual.
Leading Individual James Johnston was described as “intelligent, careful, responsive to client aims”, while Johnny Coulthard was described as “a key practitioner with a broad practice” and Georgina Nicholls was recognised as a Rising Star.
On the Medical Negligence and Serious Injury Team, Spencer Knaggs was named as a Next Generation Partner and agricultural tenancy specialist Joanne McKenzie was described as “capable, direct, brilliant”. Richard Miller was named as a Leading Individual while Diane Barnes received recognition as a Rising Star.
Helen Hayward and Robbie Mather in the Commercial Property Team were named as Next Generation Partners and Rebecca Davidson was singled out as a Rising Star.
On the Family Team Simon Mortimer was named as a Leading Individual
*Malcolm Ireland, partner and head of the Harrison Drury’s leisure and licensing team was cited as a ‘Leading Individual’ for licensing in this year’s Legal 500 publication.
For the second year in a row, Helen Griffin, from the firm’s commercial litigation team, has been named as a ‘Rising Star’. Samantha Faud, who joined the firm earlier this year, is also listed as a Rising Star for licensing.
John Chesworth, executive chairman at Kendal-based Harrison Drury, said: “This is the fourth year running we’ve been listed in the Legal 500 and each year we are gaining more recognition for both our specialisms and the quality of our individuals.”
*Commercial property specialists Duncan Harty and Sean Logue at Baines Wilson - which has offices in Carlisle and Lancaster - were also named as “leading individuals” in their field.
NEW TEAM MEMBERS
Realise HR has welcomed two new members to the team. David McLean has been appointed as Operations Director and Georgia Roberts also joins the HR Consultancy and Recruitment business as its new Recruitment Executive.
