In the realm of automobiles, transitioning from one vehicle to another without a palate-cleansing break can be a challenging task. Hence, as I embarked on an event with Lamborghini, concerns arose about how the Volvo would fare on the return journey.
However, my worries were unfounded, for this particular Volvo proved itself worthy of standing tall in any company, even alongside a Lamborghini. Upon first glance, the Volvo V60 may seem to fit into the workhorse category, while the Lamborghini undoubtedly exudes a supercar aura.
Yet, the V60, an estate car, defies stereotypes. The new Hybrid model exudes a crisp and clean appearance, exuding undeniable intelligence and a high-quality finish. Its low and wide stance, coupled with the striking 19-inch alloys and slender tires, offers a clear indication of its sportiness.
Beneath the sleek bonnet and behind the distinctive Thor hammer lights lies a turbocharged petrol engine capable of standing on its own merit. However, the V60 takes it a step further with a plug-in hybrid electric motor, resulting in a combined power output of 350PS. With such force at its disposal, this reasonably sized estate catapults from 0 to 60mph in just over five seconds.
Impressively, the V60 also delivers remarkably high miles per gallon figures during leisurely trips to Silverstone, the iconic home of motorsport. Its average fuel consumption fluctuates, sometimes registering in the hundreds, occasionally in the 30s. Despite the distance covered, the hybrid's fuel consumption remains modest, and it can even travel 55 miles solely on electric power.
Moreover, the V60 excels in both ride comfort and handling prowess. It devours the highway effortlessly, a quality that proves beneficial on the 260-mile journey to Silverstone, including the diversion required for a drop-off.
Equipped with substantial power and all-wheel drive, the V60 thrives on challenging bends. The multi-way adjustable sports seats are exceptional, catering to individuals of all shapes and sizes. With the extended squab providing thigh support and lumbar adjustments to suit each driver's spine, motoring becomes a pain-free experience, regardless of the hours spent behind the wheel.
Indeed, one may easily forget that the V60 is an estate car. However, this fact was brought to my attention when it effortlessly accommodated our old, dilapidated front door for a trip to the tip.
The convenience of the powered tailgate is always appreciated, sparing me from dirtying my hands. The spacious and beautifully appointed cabin will be familiar to anyone who has experienced the latest range of Volvos. The central dashboard boasts an iPad-esque touch screen, enabling effortless control of multiple functions, including navigation. Intuitive and quickly adaptable, this interface enhances the driving experience.
The V60's interior exudes solidity, safety, and prestige, enveloping occupants in comfort. Tactile materials contribute to the overall quality feel, while the excellent premium hi-fi system offers an impressive audio experience.
As drivers, our expectations of vehicles continue to grow, and the V60 exceeds these demands. Undoubtedly, it is an exceptional car that confidently holds its own, regardless of the company it keeps. Truly, no request is too great for the V60.
