HOLMEN Iggesund Paperboard Workington celebrated 10 years opening of the CHP Plant by inviting employees and their families for a day of fun on Saturday, May 13, 2023.
In December 2022, the Holmen Iggesund management team decided to hold an open day to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the CHP Plant opening.
Val Warren – HR Advisor formed a committee of employees.
74 employees with their families and their children (too young for the Mill tour) enjoyed the marquee area, games, food, and drink and relaxed in the sun and 245 employees with their families enjoyed guided tours around the mill.
Chris Sutcliffe kindly conducted familiarisation tours for employees prior to the event to enable them to guide employees and their families around the mill on the day.
Mechanical, E/I, Civil and other departments helped moving equipment, supplying electricity, providing signage and many other behind the scenes activities to ensure the success of the day.
Apprentices, along with Ann-Marie Pavitt and Naomi Gregg from Finance, Val Warren, Gail Cook and Megan Rutherford from HR and many others facilitated the day and Laboratory staff Stephen Rumney and Callum Brown showing families how to make paper with the materials used in the mill.
We try to stay as local as we can with suppliers and were able to secure many from our last open day in 2016!
• The Fun Experts from Preston supplied a photo booth, rodeo bull, tin can alley, hook a duck, inflatable basketball, inflatable football, crazy golf, hand buzz wire, giant Jenga, giant connect4 and giant noughts and crosses.
• Fletchers Fun Fair supplied a children’s roundabout and a playcentre (trampolines, ball pool and slide).
• Sizzling Simons provided delicious food.
• Gray’s Ices Ice Cream Van provided cold drinks and ice creams.
• Marquee hire and installation with tables, chairs, and lights from Evans Marquee Hire Lancaster.
• Rob Ives from Harrogate provided paper animation activities for the children.
• Katy Leese from Workington provided face painting.
• Graeme Cameron was the photographer on the day.
• Maryport Lifeboat and Workington Fire Service attended site during the day (and even got their faces painted!).
• Thompson’s Haulage supplied two trucks loaded with pulp logs and biofuel logs for families to view.
The day was a resounding success thanks to our employees and their families and the kindness of the business, the feedback has been amazing, the committee and volunteers were fantastic and everyone is looking forward to the next celebrations! A huge thank you to all involved.
