A CAFÉ has reopened under new ownership and has been named in honour of a family member who used to run it.

Betty’s Beach Hut is situated on Bank End in the village of Haverigg just a stone’s throw away from the beach.

The café was formerly the Haverigg Beach Café – one of Cumbria’s highest-rated cafes on TripAdvisor.

Anna Dawson and her sister Nicola Armstrong have partnered up with Ian Armstrong and Liam Fisher to set up their new business venture after the previous owners announced their retirement after 20 years.

“We rushed to get everything done so we could catch the last of the summer holidays,” said Anna. "We’ve jumped in at the deep end but the first weekend has been really successful.

“It’s been a tough slog with having so many people through the door, but it’s been great. It’s a really exciting time for us all.

“We’ve all worked in this industry before but this is our first go at running a café. My sister runs The Bloom Room – the florist shop in Millom.”

The four partners decided to name the café after Betty Dawson, now aged 90, who ran the café many years ago.

And Betty, Anna and Nicola's grandmother, officially opened the shop by cutting the ribbon on Saturday morning.

In Cumbria:

Ian will take on the role as being the café's main chef.

Anna added: “We’ve changed absolutely everything from the menu to the building, which has been completely renovated. We’ve kept nothing the same.

"We are using fresh produce and sourcing our food locally as much as we can.

“We look forward to welcoming you to Betty’s Beach Hut.”
