A local business will open its newly refurbished and expanded store in Cumbria this weekend.
Budgens will host a grand opening event on Saturday, September 2 at its premises on Woodhouse Road in Whitehaven, with special offers and events such as face painting, balloonists, and a ribbon-cutting from local councillor Chris Hayes to mark the day.
The Sharma family has owned businesses in West Cumbria for over 33 years and has invested heavily to support old and new residents in the area.
Previously under the branding of Nisa, the new store will be one of over 260 Budgens in the UK.
Owner Nicholas Sharma said: "We’ve been in the local area for 33 years. Originally, we bought Crossfield Garage at Cleator Moor. From there, we’ve expanded to over five retail shops. We employ roughly 60 members of staff at the moment but that will go up now with the new store.
"We decided to change the branding to Budgens. We’re all Nisa stores at the minute but we’ve been having availability and supply problems with Nisa, so we’re trying Budgens as a new brand, which is under the Tesco umbrella."
After months of work extending and refurbishing the store, it will open its doors this Saturday, on what promises to be a fun-filled, family-friendly celebration.
The day will also include food tasting, mega in-store deals, and more, with councillor Hayes set to cut the ribbon at 12 noon.
