A CAREERS fair is being organised for young people and unemployed adults in the Barrow area to meet potential future employers.

Apprenticeship, training and further education providers will also be stationed at the ‘Your Next Steps’ Career Fair at Forum 28 in Barrow between 1pm-7pm on Tuesday April 23.

The event is being organised by Inspira in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Cumbria Careers Hub to address the unprecedented number of apprenticeship applications received by a core Barrow business this year, which surpasses the number of available places.

The aim is to support unsuccessful applicants by showcasing a wide array of career options available within the local area, to help them navigate their next steps effectively.

Organisers say this is crucial, especially considering the current skills shortages faced by local employers and the significant percentage of 18-24-year-olds not engaged in employment, education, or training.

DWP is also extending invitations to unemployed adults by recognising the importance of maximising employer engagement at the event.

Julia Winder, area operations manager at Inspira said: “This is a great opportunity to for young people and those who are not in employment to meet and make connections with the employers or organisations in the local area that they are interested in.

“This proactive approach not only benefits individuals seeking career pathways but also contributes to addressing the broader issue of skills gaps and youth unemployment in the area.”
