Cumberland and Westmorland & Furness Councils are recruiting for the Cumbria Economic Growth Board.

These councils are inviting business leaders and representative bodies to join the new initiative, which will allow local business representatives to actively participate in regional decision-making and help shape Cumbria's future.

The Economic Growth Board will aim to supply a robust business voice for regional strategy development, while ensuring the best decisions are made for the people and places of Cumbria.

This project is part of a recent overhaul in which these councils took over the tasks of the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (CLEP).

Individuals applying to the Economic Growth Board must present strong strategic leadership, talent, and skills to work effectively at boardroom level.

They should show passion and commitment to advancing the best interests of Cumbria, its people, environment, and economy.

Candidates for these roles will inspire confidence in the local business community and demonstrate potent networking skills.

The councils say they are actively looking to build an Economic Growth Board that accurately represents the varied business sectors, geography, and communities of Cumbria.

They are dedicated to promoting fully inclusive culture and welcome applications from all sections of the business community, irrespective of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability.

In addition, applications from wider public, private and voluntary sector partners with connections to the wider business community and representatives of key economic growth sectors are encouraged.

Darren Crossley and Angela Jones, the two directors in Cumberland and Westmorland and Furness Councils with responsibility for economic growth, said: "The Cumbria Economic Growth Board is an exciting new board which demonstrates ambition and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to deliver strategic economic growth and exploit those opportunities for the people in Cumbria.

"We are very interested to hear from business leaders and representative organisations who feel that they can add value and provide visionary leadership."

The roles are expected to require a time commitment of one to one and a half days per month.

These positions are voluntary and therefore unpaid, but expenses will be covered for travel to meetings and for any costs directly incurred due to the role.

Board appointments are for a three-year term, with the potential for a further three-year period upon re-appointment.

More information on the roles can be found on the Councils' jobs pages.
