A NEW Italian restaurant has opened to rave reviews from eager diners impressed by the ‘comforting’ food and ‘welcoming’ staff.

Casa Italian opened on Queen Street in Whitehaven at the weekend following a launch event held on Friday evening.

The new eatery is located in the former Casa a Roma building, which closed suddenly earlier this year – leaving the town without an Italian restaurant.

The premises have been taken over by Luke Johnston and Robert MacMillan, who own The Pour House tapas bar and restaurant on Lowther Street. They are joined by Luke’s friend, Dean Hodgson, in their latest business venture.

Luke said that the 'much-anticipated' opening of Casa Italian was met with an 'impressive' turnout, with diners filling tables from lunch through to late evening.

“Diners raved about the flavours, especially the delicious pastas and pizzas which received special praise," he said.

“The ambiance, complete with cosy lighting transported guests straight to Italy, adding to the warm, welcoming vibe. Despite the bustling crowd, service was attentive, and the staff’s enthusiasm was palpable.

“Casa Italian’s debut hints at a promising future as a local favourite for Italian cuisine.”

The food is freshly made and sourced from authentic Italian suppliers. The menu has been designed to touch on classic and contemporary Italian dishes.

Chris Hayes, deputy mayor of Whitehaven, who attended the launch event, said: “The new owners have made a lovely job in the renovation of the restaurant.

“Lovely ambience with lovely food. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. I could personally recommend it to residents and friends. Well done Luke, Robert and Dean.”

Alan Spedding, who represents Corkickle North on Whitehaven Town Council, also attended the launch event.

He said: “I've been really excited to see what the new owners would do with the business. Casa Romana was well established and very popular with the locals in town so rather a hard act to follow.

“The lads have opened with passion and promise and have offered diners one of those menus that offer such a variety of choice that it's impossible to choose from.

“Our food was really well cooked and comforting on a cold autumn night and hit the mark perfectly. Good flavours and fresh seafood cooked well. I'll definitely be back.”
