A bridge has collapsed on the outskirts of Carlisle.
Bell Bridge, in Sebergham near Welton, is believed to have crumbled into the river at lunchtime today.
A local businessman reported that it was there at midday, but when he drove past at 12.30pm it had vanished.
The bridge was one of those closed by Cumbria County Council last month, following concerns over its structural stability.
Part of the support is understood to have been washed away, with further damage caused during yesterday's heavy rain and high river levels.
The bridge was used by locals, including tractors and horse trailers, but is also a popular route for walkers and horse riders.
