A POPULAR village pub landlady and partner are celebrating their first year in business with community celebrations.
Landlady of The Ship Inn 1691, Kirky-in-Furness, Lisa Storey, 48 will be celebrating her first year as the pub owner in august by giving back to the community with some fun celebrations.
Lisa and her partner, Mark Holt took over the pub in August last year as everyone was starting to get back to normality after 18 months of restrictions and lockdowns due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Lisa said: “We originally got asked if we wanted to take over the pub but circumstances just weren’t right, the opportunity arose again after the previous landladies time was up and it was there for us to rent again and it worked out better cause we lived in the village and I was in a position to give up my job and we both moved in and I ran it then as my full occupation
“I’ve always wanted to run the pub, I loved it and love the village.
“I did a bit of bar work as I was working part-time watching my children grow up so I’ve always loved working behind a bar so just decided it was the right time to take it on.
“We opened literally when everything was opening back up again, people were supporting us, wanting to get back out and it was nice weather too which helped.
“We got given the keys on the august 12 and opened on the August 20 and had a week to do it all up and people were happy with us being open with no restrictions, everyone has welcomed us in, it’s been here a long time, 1691 they think, a lot of landladies and landlords since then, so its nice to have a warm welcome from the community.”
Lisa is throwing a one-year family fun day celebration for everyone to attend on August 13 with her partners, Marks 50th celebrations in the evening when Jon Bryne will be performing for everyone to enjoy.
