A Cumbrian pub which prides itself on produce from one of the county's biggest estates, is in the running for a national accolade.
Having been named the best pub in Cumbria at the 2018 National Pub and Bar Awards, the George and Dragon near Penrith now goes through to the final next month.
The former 18th century coaching inn at Clifton will compete with pubs from across the UK for the National Pub of the Year title at a celebration hosted by Pub and Bar magazine in London's BAFTA theatre on May 23.
Chris Curry, general manager of George and Dragon, said it was a great honour to win the county title particularly as the pub celebrates its 10th anniversary this summer.
He added: "It is a real tribute to all our team, who work hard day-in, day-out, to provide the very best customer experience.
"We’re looking forward to awards nights and meeting all the other contenders from around the country at the iconic BAFTA theatre next month.”
Over the past decade the George and Dragon has built a reputation for its food with fresh, local produce coming from the nearby Lowther Family estate, including Askham Hall where pub owner Charles Lowther grew up.
The pub has also been shortlisted for the Taste category in the Cumbria Tourism Awards 2018.
The winner will be revealed at Cartmel Racecourse in June.
